One Man Wrecking Machine Trenton Surloff Has Breakout Game as Cobra’s Win Season Opener Under New Head Coach Jeff Camron.

Fort Pierce, FL – August 25, 2018 - At five feet eleven inches tall Fort Pierce Central’s Trenton Surloff may not seem all that intimidating. That is until he slaps on some shoulder pads, a football helmet and steps on the field. The senior, whose hair is measured in feet rather than inches, needed only the first game of the season to put the entire Treasure Coast on notice that he is not “a force” to be reckoned with, he is THE FORCE to be reckoned with.

The 220-pound Surloff, who sports a kickin’ 3.74 GPA had arguably the best performance of any area football player ever in last nights 19-12 Cobra win on the road against the Lyman Greyhounds.

Five solo tackles – check;
Five assisted tackles – check;
Three tackles for losses – check;
One quarterback sack – check;
Four quarterback hurries – check;
Three fumble recoveries – check;
One offensive touchdown – check;
One defensive touchdown that included stripping the quarterback of the ball and returning it 96 yards – check.

Those are the kind of stats that first year head coach Jeff Carmon could only dream of when he took over a program knowing he would be charged with rebuilding it after two back to back up and down seasons.

“Trenton plays with great heart and intensity. He has the best motor I have seen been around since Brock Miller”, says Camron. And that’s quite a compliment as Miller, a Sophomore Linebacker at NC State and 2016 grad of John Carroll was heavily recruited by schools the likes of Ole Miss, Miami, Florida and Virginia Tech, just to name a few.

“We hired Coach Camron because he is a superstar in the classroom and knew that his mentality would transfer onto the field of play. Not only does he know what it takes to win, but he knows that it’s STUDENT first and athlete second”, says Fort Pierce Central Principal Todd Smith.

Yes, it’s early in the season and most around St. Lucie County have never even heard of Lyman – but that just does not matter as the Central squad took an early lead and held it until the end, never quitting or giving up despite being on the bus for longer than they were on the field during the trip north to Lyman.

Although winning that first game out of the gate as a new head coach had special meaning for Camron, “it was much more special to see the kids rewarded for their hard work”, says the mild-mannered coach.

Next week will see Camron and company travel down to the school he graduated from – South Fork, for a bigger than life test. Then the Cobra’s host Martin County and right after that they face cross-town rival Fort Pierce Westwood where Camron squares off against long his long-time friend Chris Hutchins, whom he (Camron) was an assistant for both at FP Central and John Carroll.

Regardless of the outcome of this season, one thing is for sure though. If Surloff stays healthy and continues to put up the numbers he did last night opponents can count one thing from this one man wrecking machine – CHECKMATE!
